What a bunch of – what else can you call them but jerks. Keep smiling till they turn off your ventilator and you are off to a new adventure in another world. “Look on the Bright Side.” Now if that isn’t a Monty Python moment. Pence, the laughably toady head of our Covid response, remember him? He had the answer today at a luncheon with some of our country’s leaders. ![]() Moronic leadership gives moronic results. And if you chose not to, if you chose to follow your president by pretending this is a political statement rather than a social health issue that is killing us, if you insist on pretending that wearing a mask or social distancing or hand washing is nothing more than a political slap in the face of his brilliant leadership – then guess what – our economy will take longer than any other Western Democracy, probably longer than most of the countries of the world, to get back on its feet. Wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands. And because of that we need to be careful as to how we reopen our society and get our economy going again. Yes, it is worse than any other Western country. There is a certain irony, of course, in our government’s refusal to say, yes there is a terrible plague going on in our country because that might hurt Donald’s feelings. ![]() That’s what those mask-less passengers were saying to that flight attendant when she appealed to their doing it out of concern for others. Nothing more than a reflection and celebration of the infantile narcissism of this president. Sadly there seems to be no concept of nor appreciation for ‘the common good’ anymore. You really think the Feds should provide regulations to give us all a better chance to survive this? What an unpleasant idea – that there could be something we could all agree on for the common good. Someone else’s responsibility in this administration. They might tell us the plague is still with us and thriving. The CDC? Well, mostly no one is allowed to hear from them anymore. The FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson said he’s not responsible. of Transportation need to pass uniform emergency regulations that all the airlines could follow. Douglas Kidd of the National Association of Airline Passengers said the airlines are trying, but it’s a patchwork, that the FAA and the Federal Dept. Though it’s not exactly the airlines’ fault, if you think about it. Which confuses me since Trump so loves Putin you'd think they would all love socialists. We are mask-less, we are free, and to hell with you whiney liberal socialists. At that point it’s hard not to see this as one of those idiotic political statements. They not only ignored the flight attendant’s request they ended up having a happy noisy get together with two other unmasked souls. A flight attendant asked a couple near her to wear theirs a few times. ![]() ![]() Those near her in premium economy were also not wearing masks. Once airborne, half of first class didn’t wear masks. A woman who flew during the last few days from Phoenix to Seattle complained on her flight that the plane boarded first and second class passengers first, as usual, meaning it ignored its own new policy of boarding back to front. I don’t mean to single out United, of course, it just so happened it was their slogan. It took awhile for the office to realize their sign announced. After two United planes had gone down in pretty rapid order, someone crossed out the word Fly on a poster in a travel agency window and made changes. Years ago, pre jets, when plane travel wasn’t as safe as it is now (look it up, you will be surprised) United Airlines used what they thought was a pretty nifty slogan.
